Hospitals

We provide hospitals with SENTINEL and proprietary EMG sensors, which seamlessly integrate with hardware equipment to monitor, evaluate, and immediately warn surgeons of changes in a patient’s nerve function to allow timely and appropriate intervention.

As part of the NSF i-Corps training program, we conducted over 50 interviews with surgeons, hospital administrators, OR Directors, risk managers, and insurance companies to validate the market viability of an automated IOM methodology. All were enthusiastic about automated IOM, especially if it hit these three key targets.

Rural, Low-volume Hospitals

Rural, low-volume hospitals face a huge challenge regarding location, resources, and poor health outcomes. Our cost-effective and transportable device, SENTINEL, aims to serve patients from all geographic locations or socioeconomic statuses.

By providing these hospitals access to advanced medical technologies, we can help improve health outcomes for rural communities and bridge the healthcare gap between urban and rural areas.

Ambulatory Surgical Centers

As outpatient facilities performing same-day surgeries and procedures, Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASCs) are smaller in size with limited resources. Often, these centers lack access to the same medical technologies and expertise as larger hospitals. SENTINEL can assist in time-sensitive surgical interventions.

SENTINEL’s portability allows for flexibility in ASCs, enabling them to offer a broader range of procedures without needing a large capital investment, improving patient outcomes, enhancing patient safety, and reducing healthcare costs, making it an ideal choice for these outpatient facilities.

Neurological Surgery

During neurosurgical procedures, SENTINEL can actively monitor the functional integrity of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Various modalities such as SSEP, MEP, BAEP, cortical mapping, EEG, and EMG help inform the surgeon of the patient’s neurological function while under anesthesia. This allows for prompt corrective action if necessary, improving patient outcomes and reducing the risk of postoperative complications.

Spinal Fusion

1.2 million American individuals undergo spinal surgery yearly, and up to 38% of the patients in unmonitored spinal fusion surgery experience nerve root irritation and/or pedicle wall breaches.

Traditional IOM improves these surgeries, but is high cost and has low availability. SENTINEL providese a suite of EMG tests for improved outcomes at a higher availability and a much lower cost.

The risks of postoperative complications are high. To reduce the incidence of postoperative neurological complications, including the level of the spinal cord, cauda equina, and nerve root, SENTINEL provides higher sensitivity and multimodal monitoring techniques for better surgical outcomes.
